Suddenly thought of sth my lecturer said!

The duck theory
If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck,
and even looks like a duck,

IT IS A DUCK!

Its simple really...

He's so cute! ahhhh!!

Cultural Intelligence
1) Head -
Observe common traits of people and rationalize

2) Body -
Show evidence of an ability to mirror the customs and gestures of the people around you will prove that you esteem them well enough to want to be like them. By adopting people's habits and mannerisms, you eventually come to understand in the most elemental way what it is like to be them. They, in turn, become more trusting and open.

3) Heart -
Adapting to a new culture involves overcoming obstacles and setbacks. People can do that only if they believe in their own efficacy. Dont be disheartened by set backs! Don't give up!

Use these 3 to full capacity. Only then will you be able to survive in cross cultural situations.

A key principle of compensation is to link more of it directly to performance
1) Don't tie pay to power
2) Make compensation comprehensible
3) Start spreading the news.
4) Pay them promptly so they can link cause n effect
5) Make rewards reversible (not so common n often that they expect it and dont bother to work for it)
6) You can give non-monetary rewards (interesting assignments, etc. But if you create too much supply you end up debasing the currency. A nonmonetary reward quickly loses its value if it's overused.)
7) Don't be a compensation chauvinist (in cross cultural situations watch what you say!)
8) Be Optimistic and dont get disheartened! When it comes to rewarding employees, the key is not how much more you have to give. It's how well you give what you already have.
*** Down side
Rewards Punish - People no longer bother to go above and beyond the call of duty simply because they wont get paid for it. When people don't receive the reward they have been hoping for, they feel punished
Rewards Rapture Relations- Cooproration dissolves(if i help you, you will get reward too! i might get none!) If management is giving out the rewards, Employees don't ask management for help when they need it (conceal problems to appear competent)
Rewards deter risk taking - Do this get that, ppl focus too much on that
Rewards undermine interest - Their work is no longer freely chosen and they lose interest (if they have to bribe me into it its sth i most prob dun wana do)
Thus money is not good as it distracts everyone from the task at hand and it's not a good peroccupation
What works then?
choice, collaboration and content. Choice means workers should participate in making decisions about what they do. Collaboration means they should be able to work together in effective teams. Content refers to the job's tasks. To do a good job, people need a good job to do.

Being a tempered radical
1) rock the boat
First, focusing on something that could be done easily and without causing
a lot of stir. Next, he attacked the problem not by criticizing
other's judgment but by enrolling them in ur agenda
(praising her tempting sandwiches, then making a gentle
suggestion). Third, he illuminated the advantages of the
proposed change by pointing out the benefits to the everyone.
And he started a conversation that, through her,
spread to the rest of the staff. Finally, he inspired
others to action

Tempered radicals bear no banners; they sound no
trumpets. Their ends are sweeping, but their means are
mundane. They are firm in their commitments, yet fiexible
in the ways they fulfill them. Their actions may be
small but can spread like a virus. They yeam for rapid
change but trust in patience. They often work individually
yet pull people together. Instead of stridently pressing
their agendas, they start conversations. Rather than battling
powerful foes, they seek powerful friends. And in
the face of setbacks, they keep going. To do all this, tempered
radicals understand revolutionary change for what
it is-a phenomenon that can occur suddenly but more
often tban not requires time, commitment, and the patience
to endure.
Harnessing the science of persuasion

1)Liking
People like people who geuninely like them

Managers can use similarities to create bonds with a recent hire, the head of another department, or even a new boss.
The important thing is to establish the bond early because it creates a presumption of goodwill and trustworthiness in every subsequent encounter. It's much easier to build support for a new project when the people you're trying to persuade are already inclined in your favor

2)Reciprocity
People repay in kind

Managers can elicit the desired behavior from coworkers and employees by displaying it first Whether it's a sense of trust, a spirit of cooperation, or a pleasant demeanor, leaders should model the behavior they want to see from others.

3)Social Proof
People follow the lead of similar others

persuasion can be extremely effective when it comes from peers
influence is often best exerted horizontally rather than vertically.

4)Consistency:
People align with their clear commitments.

Make their commitments active, public, and voluntary.
People need not only to like you but to feel committed to what you want them to do. Good turns are one reliable way to make people feel obligated to you. Another is to win a public commitment from them
Small, seemingly trivial commitment can have a powerful effect on future actions.
Get it in writing, you'll have greatly increased the odds that he'll fulfill the commitment because, as a rule, people live up to what they have written down.

5)Authority:
People defer to experts. Expose your expertise; don't assume it's self-evident

inform them into compliance
A single expert-opinion news story in the New York Times is associated with a 2% shift in public
opinion nationwide
When an expert's view was aired on national television, public opinion shifted as much as 4%.
Cynics might argue that these findings only illustrate the docile submissiveness of the public
However, truth is, a well-selected expert offers a valuable and efficient shortcut to good decisions. Indeed, some questions, be they legal, financial, medical, or technological, require so much specialized knowledge to answer, we have no choice but to rely on experts

6) Scarcity:
People want more of what they can have less of. Highlight unique benefits and exclusive information.

Managers can learn from retailers how to frame their offers not in terms of what people stand to gain but in terms ofwhat they stand to lose if they don't act on the information.
exclusive information is more persuasive than widely available data.
** Information given must be given genuine.
Deceiving colleagues into compliance is not only ethically objectionable, it's foolhardy. If the deception is detected-and it certainly will be-it will snuff out any enthusiasm the offer originally kindled. It will also invite dishonesty toward the deceiver. Remember the rule of reciprocity.

Guess what? PMS causes temporary insanity! its true! kinda figured why i acted so strangely sometimes.. hmmm.. maybe its really pms! omg omg omg!

Your PMS Disaster Level: High

You are definitely a PMS disaster!
At least you're only scary a few days of the month.

So this is why you dont go to the doctor when i tell you to! is it true?

We men don't like doctors because here's this guy who thinks he's so smart just because he got good grades in college and went to med school. We like to be the boss of things, and the one thing in life we know we're the boss of is our own body. But then the doctor comes in and now he's the boss.

For a lot of us, this is just too much of a demotion, and we decide that whatever is wrong with us, it isn't worth the loss in status we experience with a doctor visit.

Naturally, he'll get even more stubborn when you tell him to go to the doctor. What, now you want to be the boss of him, too?

Then there is this bit! no wonder! hmmm..

You may not like it, but men process stress a lot differently than women. Mostly, we crawl into our heads or turn on the game rather than talk about it.

You haven't seen him all day, and you probably wish he'd be excited to connect with you, but instead he seems dead. This doesn't have anything to do with you; it has to do with the male brain, which, despite evidence to the contrary, really does exist. Let him burn off the fog within, and when he's ready, he'll be a bit sunnier.

I
really have to learn to be more independent..
At least i was independent...
What happened! Its like ivh been domesticated.. omg omg omg!!

The Keys to Your Heart

You are attracted to obedience and warmth.

In love, you feel the most alive when your partner is patient and never willing to give up on you.

You'd like to your lover to think you are stylish and alluring.

You would be forced to break up with someone who was arrogant, acting like the dictator of your life.

Your ideal relationship is lasting. You want a relationship that looks to the future... one you can grow with.

Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment.

You think of marriage as something precious. You'll treasure marriage and treat it as sacred.

In this moment, you think of love as commitment. Love only works when both people are totally devoted.

i just realised the me now is quite different from the me last time

is this good? oh no...

this was interesting!

I had spagetti for dinner today!

the guy piled so much of it on my plate it was flooding!!
then it looked like a mountain!
so now e size of my stomach is like a mountain!

ahhhh!

so much for trying to exercise while @ home!
the only thing i see decreasing is e "twin mountains" (ok molehills.. okok! oranges!)
waaaa....

Today i went for MNO QNA session! think what e marketing lecturer said is true! maybe the lecturers are very quiet reserved people? JUst that they LOVE their topic so when they talk about it they become super animated.
Like you wont do a PHD & become a lecturer unless you really love it right?

Started thinking about e frog in boiling water issue when i was bathing in e super warm bath water today..
There is a saying that a frog in boiling water will not notice the difference in temperature if it is increased gradually. Then when its too late, it will die.
of coz this is scientifically proven to be not true..
anyway the moral of this story is that we must be aware of our surroundings and not become so complacent that we are indifferent to small changes..
then i started wondering about the hot water cold water experiment where you stick one hand into hot then one into cold then both into lukewarm and you feel the difference..
Maybe in the story, humans are the ones who dont notice the difference in water temperature..
Just that they changed the main character to a frog
so that we wont feel insulted..
Hmmm...

You know how everyone is going on about motivational talk about how:

When you believe you can achieve
Together we are strong

And all the anime emphaise on these beautiful values and all that...

Then my lecturer shattered it all today:

These ideals are actually decision traps people might fall into! you should aviod them at all costs!!

decision traps a person might fall into.. they are:

anchoring trap
status quo trap
sunk cost trap - not willing to give up coz you put so much into an investment
framing trap - frame situations favourable to your outlook

I guess these are true.. then it came to the team traps!

group polarization - tendency for teams to make more risky decisions then individuals working alone [ think - anime: we are together! we can make it! you are not alone! ]

deindividaulisation & diffusion of responsibility - [ think - anime : bad guys in groups have no morals : team rocket??]

group think : tendency of choesive groups to value consensous over decision quality. characterised by
overestimation of group : [invulnerability - view group polarisation]
closemindedness [eletism? ]
pressures towards conformity [ i shall kick you out if you dont conform!]
Conditions: choesion, strong leadership, strategic competitions & comeetitive pressure

So much for how romantic shooting stars are when they are actually burning pieces of rubble..

Been watching/reading perfect girl evolution e whole of this "Kimberlyn's day!"

so stressed out by projects recently!

super happy that i have only 1 more project to submit!

^^

happy deepavali everyone!!

I miss my dear... the poor thing had duty in camp today!
miss him! T.T
Love can be the most beautiful sweet and wonderful thing of all

however when the good feelings fade, love can be the most terrible thing
most people turn to hurtful methods in an attempt to make these feelings reappear
it's like a sinful addictive drug
all it will do to you is harm

then, i might wonder, is that really love?

how do i explain to my friends, in order to recieve, you too must give
you too have to love him as if you have never been hurt
then he will love you too

hurt in a relationship never solves anything

all it takes is understanding and a kind heart

i must remind myself of that often

Then again, if you realise that its not the right person,
there's really no point in continuiing
coz you will only be wasting each other's time

i feel so lucky..
ivh got my dear!
