Really no one understands? O.o its quite simple really

"Kantian approach" or "duty ethics"by Immanuel Kant
Act in such a way that you always treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of any other, never simply as a means, but always at the same time as an end.

--> the means are more imporant then the end

VS

"utilitarian approach" or "consequential ethics" Jeremy Bentham
Something is good if it is useful, an that an action is moral if it maximized pleasure among humans.
do the greatest good for the most people
the ends justify the means

--> the ends are more important then the means

hmmm..
i can think of alot of immoral things that humans do that maximizes pleasure among alot of humans..

--> refers to how an action is moral if it maximized pleasure amongst humans

so what does the ends and the means thing mean?

-Means more impt then the ends
Like what we leant in MNO1001.
What makes a good decision?
a decision in which you made in which you can have a clear conscience. Alth the outcome is indeterminate, and might not be good, you know that your decision was a good one as long as the method you used to get to the final outcome is good.

-Ends more important then the means
Its the basic bad guy theory
Its ok to kill off all the humans on earth and sacrifice your self in the process and do tons of harm as long as our ultimate good goal (to save the earth and prevent global warming) is accomplished

simple no?
